Madrid, 14 th February 2025. IMDEA Nanociencia joins the celebrations of the Day of Women and Girls in Science with different activities. At the Príncipe de Asturias school, the boys and girls of the 3rd year of Early Childhood Education (5 years old) have carried out two workshops on molecular nanocars and drug encapsulation, given by the researchers Manuela Garnica (Group of States of Topological Surfaces in Quantum Materials), Ana Barragán, Elena Pérez (Group of Nanoarchitectures in Surfaces), Gloria Tobajas, Teresa Naranjo (Chemistry of Low-Dimensional Materials Group) and Carmen García (Advanced Fluorescence Nanoscopy Group).
In another school, Natalia Martín (Chemistry of Low-Dimensional Materials Group) has given a talk-colloquium for the students of 2nd year of Technological Baccalaureate at the Humanitas School (Torrejón de Ardoz).
Researcher Valle Palomo (Biosensors in Neuroscience Group) has made a video for the Teófilo Hernando Forum of Young Researchers, organized by the Teófilo Hernando Foundation and the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain, in which she tells why she decided to dedicate her professional career to research.
These conferences are intended to show, in an entertaining way, the talent that makes up the Institute, visibilize the profession and encourage pupils to dedicate themselves to research. February 11th, proclaimed International Day of Women and Girls in Science by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, aims to draw attention to achieve access and full and equal participation in science for women and girls, achieve gender equality and promote scientific vocations and innovative spirit among girls, encouraging them to opt for scientific-technological careers.
With these activities, IMDEA Nanociencia places emphasis on recognizing the fundamental role played by women in scientific communities, and promoting participation in science research outreach activities. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science has been celebrated at IMDEA Nanociencia since 2018, with various activities that combine scientific dissemination, the promotion of scientific vocations and gender equality.
