Madrid, 19th December 2025. IMDEA Nanociencia became a meeting point for emerging talent in nanoscience with the celebration of its annual Early Stage Researchers Workshop, an event designed to promote scientific exchange, visibility, and collaboration among PhD students and early-career scientists. The workshop brought together more than 160 attendants, creating a vibrant forum for discussion around four main areas of nanoscience: Nanomedicine, Quantum Materials and Surface Science, Photophysics and Materials
The scientific programme reflected the breadth and interdisciplinarity of the field, with 2 plenary lectures, 16 oral presentations and 78 poster contributions. The plenary lectures were delivered by Dr. Guillermo González Rubio (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and Dr. Cristina Fornaguera Puigvert (Institut Químic de Sarrià, Universitat Ramon Llull), that provided an insight into the role of nanoparticle morphology in their optical properties and the design of nanocarriers for RNA delivery.
The workshop had a parallel online session, in which all attendees were invited to contribute their stories and messages about science in social media. The aim of this session was to encourage scientific communication beyond the academic audience, making it accessible to everyone.
The best contributions were awarded in three categories. The Best Oral Communication was awarded to Guillermo Parra Martínez (IMDEA Nanociencia); the Best Poster Communication was awarded to Teresa Moreno Núñez (Universidad Complutense de Madrid); and Best Social Media Communication was awarded to Paula Carreño Flores (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). The awards were sponsored by the Spanish Biophysical Society, the Madrid Territorial Section of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (STM-RSEQ), the Group of Nanoscience and Molecular Materials (GENAM-RSEQ-RSEF), IOP Publishing, 'Mas Que Oca' Ediciones and 'Publish or Perish' game.
Once again, the Early Stage Researchers Workshop became a cornerstone event for IMDEA Nanociencia and the Nanoscience community, offering young researchers a platform to present their work, connect with peers, and engage with leading scientists.
